How do you combine folk art and gourmet cuisine?
During my internship at FÖDA I developed the visual identity for El Cubico — a food truck owned by La Condesa, a contemporary Mexican restaurant in Austin.
The concept arose from a need for market differentiation, and takes inspiration from Oaxacan folk art. The art is hand drawn, resulting in a brand that is energetic, grounded, amusing, and contemporary.

How do you propose a career in the arts to teenagers?
This print campaign was designed to engage a young adult audience. Bold colors, image transparencies, and clean type were used to transport the viewer to the University, and simultaneously express the department's commitment to self-expression.
The brochure unfolds into a poster for teachers to hang in their classrooms. By doubling as a poster, we extended the life of the print material and produced two pieces in one – effectively cutting the budget in half.
Custom Moleskine sketchbooks were designed as giveaway items – reminding students to finish their application on their daily routine.

How do you teach children about the effects of deforestation?
The Oak and Its Family is a didactic wooden puzzle that teaches children about the different animals that coexist in an oak tree. The pieces are based on data from the National Wildlife Federation, and are made from white oak lumber.
The shapes of the puzzle pieces reference the project "16 Animal," created by Italian designer Enzo Mari in 1960. The interlocking pieces create a visual metaphor for the coexistence that exists within a single oak tree.

"The Networker" is a biannual electrical engineering publication that reaches over 2,000 readers. I was hired by WNCG to take the publication from a common newsletter to a graphic and evocative magazine that would attract students, donors, and corporate sponsors.
One challenge when designing "The Networker" was the lack of print-quality photography. To overcome this challenge, and highlight the ground-breaking research happening at WNCG, I used stock photography that evoked a feeling of discovery.
The LHASC brand is based on the strength of communities, resulting in a personable yet firm identity. LHASC was formed in 2013 at The University of Texas at Austin to help establish a community of Latino artists that were socially engaged.
The emblem of the organization was designed around the connectivity of its members and takes visual inspiration from Latin American Modernist — a time in which hispanic artists formed tight knit communities to establish the credibility of their field.

"The Noble Tree" is an upcoming book published by Fortitude Provisions – a lifestyle company focused on all-natural products for men. The book explores the philosophical connection between woodworking and nature, and therefore the design features imagery that supports its connection.
The imagery takes inspiration from the Civilian Conservation Corps, a program under Roosevelt's New Deal that employed young men for the conservation and development of national parks.
How do you control anxiety by providing biofeedback?
For weeks I researched anxiety and ways to help patients cope with its symptoms outside of therapy. The result is "Medi" – a handheld self-awareness companion that helps the user meditate and regulate their bodies.
By vibrating to the pattern of a resting pulse and glowing to the rythm of normal respiration, "Medi" lets users control their body and regain balance. The functions are based on "mindfulness" techniques used in the therapy field.
In order to increase public support for the Keystone Pipeline, I changed the visual identity of TransCanada — the Corporation behind its construction.
The new logo references its predecesor yet utilizes a softer, more friendly symbol and typeface to create a human connection with the public. A collateral print campaign with wildflower seeds inside was created to reflect Transcanada's commitment to restoring the environment and invite readers to do as well. Project in collaboration with Carolyn Embry.
This poster visually explains the interactions of drugs in body of a patient with Chronic Kidney Disease.
I decided to make this poster after researching the process of doctor appointments, and found that patients with serious diseases were not clearly communicated the purpose and dangerous side effects of their prescribed drugs.
I envision a series of similar posters for different diseases, and a future in which patients more fully understand the chemical reactions in their bodies.

I led the exhibition design team for the show "Make, Do, & Mend". My role included material sourcing, work curation, and creative direction for the exhibition spaces. In order to arrange 60 projects in less than 2,400 square feet, I proposed the idea of fabricating temporary walls from Coroplast, and table-top shelves that used existing columns in the space as anchoring.

How do you communicate 50,000 deaths?
A Nation of Fear was a group exhibition confronting issues surrounding the climate of violence in Mexico. Each artist addressed the violence, as well as its causes and the widespread social and political consequences both in Mexico and the United States.
More than 50,000 people have died as a direct result of the Mexican drug war over the last few years, and thousands more have been affected by the violence in the border town Juarez. The purpose of this exhibition was to engage the larger public into a vey difficult conversation.

How may I improve indoor air quality using recycled materials?
According to research, indoor plants increase mental performance, reduce stress, and aid learning. In addition, certain families of plants remove carcinogens from the air like benzene and formaldehyde.
I conceptualized a modular "air purifier" out of PET bottles which that functions as a room partition and enhances human living by efficiently filtering air.
Making the purifier out of household materials was very important to me, as I strongly believe in democratic design and ways to improve life without feeding into mass-consumerism.
How might I make furniture that marks my generation?
I studied traditional wood joinery and replicated the plastic forms of mass production to create objects that made a statement about our generation. The result is a series of three prototype explorations that are half industrial, half traditional.

Art Direction – Ray Delgadillo
A branding and visualization project for the UT Quad Energy Challenge — an energy saving competition between 4 residence halls at The University of Texas at Austin.
My role in the project was to create a 3D visualization of energy savings, and give creative direction for the identity of the competition.
In order to support the grass-roots concept, I suggested using low-cost vertical graphs for each of the participating dorms, and use spray paint throughout the print campaign. By using stencils and spray paint, my team was able to use recycled materials without the need of a vendor.
